This is an AMD hs/fan with a barcode on it... the fan is dying a slow death... do the *fans* carry any special warranty?

I'm pretty sure you can RMA it.

I actually had a dead Tbird some time ago and was surprised to learn that AMD does warranty tracking on the barcode / serial number on the fan rather than the information on the CPU.

EDIT: I just checked an A64 system I'm setting up and that AMD HS/F doesn't have a serial number on it so things might have changed.

yeah the amd retail cpu's have a 3 year warranty, to get the warranty you need the Heatsync...I'm sure AMD would be happy to replace just the fan for you, you might want to call them though and talk to a person to ensure they know you only want to send the fan back, not the CPU as well

I would just get a better fan;

I've bought them from 3DCool.com and they really stand up to the heat.

Some of the heat sinks are redundant depending on the CPU you have.

That's what I do when they die on me . You can pickup one for under $10.00. Jjust save the old one for warranty.

They do! They do! I have had AMD replace two fans for me under warranty. To keep the systems running, I replaced the AMD fans with locally available and RMA'd the failed ones for replacements. One of the manufacturers for AMD is Taisol as the replacements I got were both Taisol (AXP 2100s.)

For those wondering Intel does there retail processor warrenties the same way AMD does (need the fan for warrenty).
