OT: Careful buying from Circuit City Online !

I bought a LiteOn 4X DVD dual format burner from Circuit City Online. I installed it about 2 weeks after it came in (Christmas holidays and all) and burned 2 identical DVD's of my son's soccer game. I gave one to the coach and kept one. I filmed about 6 more games and started to burn them to DVD's. All I got were pretty colored coasters! It was 6 weeks after I purchased the DVD burner from them and then I looked to their website to see their return policy. It was 30 DAYS!
Man, 2 good DVD's, and 12 coasters. And they don't even absorb BEER! I e-mailed CCO's customer service, and they replied "try taking it to a retail CC store and talk (read beg) the manager to make it good" ! I can't believe this crap!
Anyway, my HD is 500mb from being full and that will lock up my CRUNCHER! (Back on Topic).

Enough of my rant,

P.S. I ordered a 8X from NewEgg, WITH a 1 year warranty. Enough said.

I was having HEAPS of problems with my Gigabyte dual-format burner. It wouldnt write to any but 1 brand of DVD and even that was flaky. So I flashed the latest firmware to my drive and it has been happy ever since 🙂

I tried the flashy thing and no go. I also tried 4 different brands of DVD's. Funny thing is that the 2 that worked,
were the cheapies...
I tried TDK, Sony, CompUSA(cheapies), and one other I can't think of. The Sony's were $4 each!

I stopped buying from Circuit City a long time ago when the ripped me off on a in-dash cd-player I bought, the quadrouple charged my credit card (for a $500 Kenwood player) on a credit card of which I only had a $800 limit, I fought with them and the CC company for nearly 4 months to get it and my credit score fixed. CC never admitted to the mistake and my CC ended up footing the bill and repairing my credit score.

No B&M electronics store that i know of has an exchange/return policy longer than 30 days.

Why not send it in to Lite-On, you know it has a warranty right?

Did you buy it with a Visa or Mastercard because it's probably covered for 90 days if you did. That is, of course, assuming the cause of the failure isn't nuclear war or an attempted insurrection. 🙂

Give Lite-On a free call here. They should be able to set up a RMA for you. I also brought one from CC over the holidays but at the store. Never have problems with mine. What software are you using to burn the dvds with?

Well, for starters, the LiteOn I ordered from NewEgg has a ONE YEAR WARRANTY. I will just buy a new one at the
retail store and put the broken one in the box and take it back the next day. They skrewed me, I skrew them...
I don't want to go thru the waiting and the expense of returning the drive to LiteOn. Heck, my HD is almost full
and I am out of tapes to store these videos on. That's why I ordered a 120gb SATA WD hard drive at the same
time that I ordered the 8X. Should be here Thursday. I will report back then..
Thanks for all of the ideas.

"edit" P.S. Thanks for the link Santar72, I couldn't find that link anywhere...maybe becuase I was sooo mad...."/edit"

How in the hell did they screw you? I'm failing to understand this.

Your drive broke after the return policy, tough luck. Send it in for a RMA. The drive you bought from Circuit City has a ONE YEAR WARRANTY too.

BTW, what your planning on doing is illegal and posting about it on a public forum isnt always the smartest idea.

Here is part of the e-mail I got from them:

At circuitcity.com, we want to make sure you?re completely satisfied with
anything you buy from us. If you?re not completely satisfied with a product,
Circuit City will gladly exchange or refund your purchase within 30 days of the
sale date?no hassles. Because of rapid changes in technology, the return period
for digital cameras, camcorders, PCs and related products (monitors, printers,
scanners) is 14 days.

Too bad I didn't read the fine print.

Exactally, too bad. Why do you feel the need to defraud circuitcity now?

Hardly the end. I'm still trying to decipher how they screwed you.
