OT: Can MS Backup span CD-RW's?

I did post this in the software forum a few days ago, but I got no reply.

I'm trying to backup my system onto CD-RW's using the MS Backup that came with Win98SE, but it's not working. As soon as it gets to the end of the first CD-RW, it gives an error message saying it ran out of room, and doesn't give an option to span to another CD-RW. 🙁 Is there any way to get it to span CD-RWs?

Also, if the above isn't possible, are there any programs that will span CD-RWs, and DON'T store the file on the hard drive before burning it? I have My Own Backup which will span CD-RWs, but it seems to store the file on your hard drive before burning it, so you can't backup a hard drive that's over 50% full with My Own Backup.

Adaptec's "Take Two" will span a backup over as many CDRW's as are required. The program allows you to restore files within windoze, or you can boot to a floppy made with Take Two, and it will restore everything, including your Hard Disk parameters, without the need for an operating system, just in case windoze died on you. A word of warning, DO NOT try to restore a backup you have made to a drive with different parameters, unless the drives were partitioned identicaly, you will lose space and will need partiton magic or something like it to get your partitions/drive size back in order. I have backed up to as many as eight CDRW's, and restored without problems. I don't think you can do an "incremental backup" therefore when you backup it will copy everything, not just files that have changed. When booting to the Take Two floppy, it will also give you the option to verify the backup. Very easy to use. I believe you also need the later version of Asaptec's Direct CD for this to work, as they both use the same packet writing drivers to do the job. When in windoze Direct CD is what you need to write to the cd in a format Take Two can work with.

Good luck backin' up!

Thanks for the response. Do you know how much Take Two costs?

Also, do you have any idea how I tell what version of Direct CD I running? I have whatever version came with my HP 8250i 4x4x24 CD-RW when I got it at the end of last December.
