My idea for this would be like a stickied OT thread at the top of the DC forum. Just a place for us to say whatever. Without the usual inane OT chatter.
Well, I'm going to go OT, for a bit of a rant...
SOAFB! UGH! I fvcking got home from work, and I have errors all over the screen. And not the normal BNS ones. The really bad ones. RAID 5 go by by type. So, okay, I've done this before. I go to try to restart the machine, and access the RAID arrays via the RAID card BIOS. Everything is slow as hell. Starts giving me failed to write errors. Oh fvcking hell... I cringe as I hit the reset button...
When I get to my RAID card BIOS, all but one drive are missing from the array. Five drives. Gone. WTF? Every single drive in the lower SATA enclosure just aren't there. Holy hell. I turn off the machine, check the cables, everything looks fine. I immediately kill a four bank of fans to reduce secondary PSU load, and reboot. The 5 250 gig hard drives decide to come back from vacation....
So now my array is critical, one drive only failed, and the full array of all 6 disks is rebuilding right now... Ugh, that sucks. So no crunching for the rest of the night while this array is rebuilding. 🙁 I need some Bailey's in my coffee now...
