Are any of you going to download 3dMark03, it is due out tommorow about 10:00AM centeral time (GMT -6). It is a 177mb file so I cant get it down on my dial-up very efficiantly. I am going to try to get it all down in one class period tomorrow during J++. I dont think I will make it though because I need to get about 65kB/second to get it done in a period, and with the rush when it first gets released I probably wont see more than 20kB/second. I guess I will just have to wait and see.

I would have cable or DSL if I could get it but I live in a rural (only 6 miles from town) area and I cant get either. I highly doubt I can get it down in one class period until things "settle down". I think it is 12 hours to the minuet away now.:Q

Considering the kind of scores I'd get with my Radeon VE, I don't think it's worth downloading for me. The only use the average person has for that program anyway is to have a number to brag about. ;)

BTW, I feel your pain, TM. I can't get broaband either. Although I live close enough to the telco to get DSL if they would provide it, there's no chance given that the town has a population of about 900 (I think that includes the dogs, cats, and fish). Also, my parents can't see the reason to pay 2 times what they pay now for dialup, and I don't have a job, so even if I could get it, I'm stuck there. :(

You think you guys feel bad that you can't get broadband? I install cable internet for a living but it isn't availible at my house. Talk about frustrating.:disgust:

To stay on the topic I don't plan on getting 3dmark03 anytime soon. I've tried 3dmark01 and on consecutive runnings it would give totally and completely different numbers that seemed to have no rhyme or reason to them. Maybe they have fixed that problem I don't know and don't care that much. Besides I would lose SoB production while I'm running it.;)

I'll probably check it out.... but I'm guessing if you're not DX9 compliant (I'm not) it will be a disappointment.

Baldy,

I think there is a memory hole in the 3DMark2001se.... I've found that if I boot between runs I can get a bit of
aid and (moderate) consistancy when I am tweaking. I agree that it is totally useless for machine to machine comparisons, but it helps me
compare tweaks when I compare run to run on the same machine.

My problem happened even with rebooting between runs. My sequence looked like this.

Run 3dmark at default video card clock
get good score
bump up video card clock
reboot
Run 3dmark
get worse score
bump up video card clock
reboot
Run 3dmark
get worse score
set video card clock speeds back to default
reboot
Run 3dmark at default video card clock
get horrible score
pound keyboard in frustration
remove every trace of 3dmark from my pc

:)
