Anybody in here havnig problems with the hard Linux distro's, should seriously give Fedora Core 4 64-bit a try.
It's elegant, easy to install, has a nice update manager , very Red Hat like simple , and I am not saying it's the best distro out there (I don't want to start a flame war), but the OS is an absoloute giant Leap from Win Xp I garauntee it.

Those who use Apple computers, like those who use Windows PCs enjoy the ability to go to your local software store and purchase tested, manufacturer supported programs. It's nice that there are tens of thousands of free programs available for linux. Unfortunately 98% of them are crap. Why would anyone use GImp when you can use Photoshop or Paintshop Pro if you can't afford Photoshop. I run Windows XP Pro and Debian Linux as well as using a Mac. Apple certainly has gotten it right with their move to BSD, I not only have Xserve installed but use it to run KDE Desktop on occassion. One thing to keep in mind when comparing Operating Systems, you get what you pay for.

Because PSP is crap and I don't need everything Photoshop provides, Gimp handles everything I need perfectly fine and it's Free. I've even put it on my work Win2K machine.

The same, if not a higher number, is true about commercial programs and at least with Free software I get the chance to fix the bugs I run into.

IMO the exact inverse is true.
