sorry about the new thread, but i kept getting an error on the other thread's page that wouldn't allowme to reply, so i started this one. this is like the 4th time i've written this.
anyway, the days of x86 are numbered. OSX should definitely not be ported to it. it's an inferior bus that is holding us all back -- amazing processors plus crappy throughput to memory and storage equals the totally mediocre performance we've come to expect from the intel architecture. it could be argued that the apple G4 is worth the money they ask because hardware-wise, as it is head and shoulders about just about everybody except the IBM rs/6000 (when talking about workstation-class boxes).
i've been an intel guy all my life, mainly because i could never afford anything better. but OSX has me excited, linux has me excited, and i'm seriously thinking about saving a little extra for an apple or IBM box as my next personal computer. then i can really become a snob. of course... intel is apparently unveiling a new architecture soon that is supposedly far better than their current chipset. so we'll have to see what happens. i am so sitting on the fence right now...
