I have a MBP and I do most stuff in osx, just a little gaming in windows. now I need a fortran compiler and open source f-compilers seem to have a problem with leopard so far. Also, my school uses solaris so I consider installing it. Can I have 3 systems on my disk or does win have to go?

You can have up to 4 partitions on your hard drive with the IntelMacs. 1 is the EFI itself, and then you can have 3 additional partitions, each of them an OS.

However, you will have to modify your EFI using rEFIt, and I have no idea what instructions may be available online for Solaris.

Frankly you may be better off with VMWare Fusion.

Thats an option of course. But then I have to buy / steal it first. Is VM better than parallels?

I personally prefer VM over Parallels. It just feels a little more polished, and seems to run a little smoother. And, the fact that Parallels required you to purchase a fresh license when they went from 2 to 3 was kind of lame
