so I follow instructions online to try to attach the dashboard widgets to my desktop, but I seem to get stuck at the very last step. Here is what I did:

1. go to settings > mission control to detach the widgets from the dashboard (uncheck show dashboard as space)

2. Go to Dev mode through the terminal. copy and paste in the code ("defaults write com.apple.dashboard devmode YES")

3. I go back to my desktop and ht FN + f12 and all my active widgets come in to my desktop.

The instruction says that I need to click + hold on the widget I want, and at the same time, hit FN+F12 again, and all the widgets except the one I am clicked on will disappear. Then I should be able to place it on my desktop. I'll use a clock widget as an example.

I click + hold on the clock widget. I hit FN + F12. All the widgets except the clock disappears, and then about half a second later, the clock also disappears from my desktop.

The thing is that now, whenever I hit FN+F12, the clock widget is no longer in my widget space. So I know that the clock widget did get moved, but I just dont know where it went. At first, I thought it went under my wallpaper, but I changed my wall paper and see nothing.

Thoughts?

Edit: something interesting I found out. From my desktop, if I hit fn+f12, my widget space comes up. if I hit the - (minus) button, like I want to delete widgets, all my widgets that have disappeared, are still not visibie, but there are little x's on my space. So it seems like the widgets haven't moved. they are just invisible. I only know it is there because the x on the corner show up and I am allowed to delete them
