DAMN! I would totally pick up a used Mac Mini to get this thing running once its released. Thats just damn sexy.

The application can play back many formats the Apple TV, and even iTunes, can't, like XviD, AVI, Video_TS, and others, straight through your HDTV. It also has additional features like streaming Internet radio and built-in game emulators. The excellent Plex UI will mix with the what Centerstage already has built, the end result being a universal application for Mac-centric Media Centers that's easy to use

Neat, in terms of bang for the buck though its going to be really tough to be an old xbox (yeah not the 360) with a softmod running XBMC. This might be able to unseat the champ though if it can offer HD playback on reasonable specs and maybe support my TV tuner (both things my xbox can't do, but there is no way I would expect the 733mhz P3 in that thing to come anywhere near strong enough to handle HD)

Or a Hackintosh in a slick Media Center case? 😀

x264/.mkv?

The mac mini is the ideal htpc for me as it's small and slick looking. Mount the large media store from a server and away you go 🙂
