I'm looking at some diagnostic test result. What does the following mean?

"The visualized osseous structures are unremarkable aside from early degenerative disc disease in the mid thoracic spine."

This result was from a TB x-ray scan. I'm just curious.

It basically means that the radiologist saw some evidence of wear and tear on his spine.

Yes, he means TB as in Tuberculosis. It can be definitively ruled out or diagnosed via xray

Are you an immigrant?

TB was nearly wiped out in America...but the dammed immigrants keep bringing it back in. 😛

(yes, I know...it's primarily the ILLEGAL immigrants, not the legal ones who have to undergo medical screening)

No, it cannot. TB can "confidently" (as opposed to definitively) be diagnosed by X-ray, but not ruled-out unless you have a basis of comparison over a period of several years.

TB tests are normally required for certain jobs or training. Immigrant or not, everyone is required to take a test. If you've had bad reactions to the normal TB test, they send you to get x-rays.

I think hospitals/doctors sometimes order them when you have a persistent lung infection . . . typically just a precaution.

this.

"The visualized osseous structures are unremarkable aside from early degenerative disc disease in the mid thoracic spine." = the bones themselves don't look collapsed, maintain proper measurements within normal limits, and don't appear to have any tumors... the only thing to note is early wear and tear of your midback. very common, nothing to worry about, unless you want to slow down the progression of degeneration. everyone gets degenerative disc disease... it's not a death sentence or anything. you can either let it go or do things to slow down it's progression... most people choose the former.
