does any os offer better performance in seti.
I have a celeron 400 just laying around and am considering setting it up for seti or ud cancer crunching.
been thinkin about that lrp linux install. and was curious if linux or win2k was faster than 98 or if the os even makes a difference

Win2k handles the VLAR WUs much better than Win9x, and although both experience a slower WU time, Win2k is less slow that 9x.

Hope that makes sense!

Not sure about Linux at all, ask Poof about that! :)

I believe one of the faster options is to run Linux, then run the Windows CLI version of SETI in WINE.

The Win2K OS handles VLAR (very low angle range) WUs better than 95, 98, or ME.

That being said, I have a WIN95b box at work who's average WU time is 7hr25min, which is faster than the exact same type of box running Win2KPro, the average of the fastest of those is 8hr8min. Both are sitting there running 24x7 not being used much at all.
