We are considering buying a few Osprey video capture cards here at work. We currently use WinTV 401's for Windows Media Encoder. The price difference between the low end Osprey-100 and the WinTV 401 is about $100 or so. The WinTV offers more features such as TV Tuner, Radio.....Now comes the dumb question.....is the Osprey brand that much better that makes it worth $100 more (with less features)?

I suppose what you are paying for is that the Osprey card does decoding without additional CPU utilization and allows the CPU to work on actual encoding (if doing live video). I would figure the WinTV card we use eats more CPU bandwith, thus making actual encoding more sluggish. Any thoughts on this??? Osprey's website doesn't give me as much information as I would like.......We would be willing to pay for better capture quality, but I would like to be assured we will be getting this with the Osprey cards....

We are also considering the Osprey 500DV to do some video editing. Does anybody have any thoughts on that card as well???
