OSI Model--Blackbox Concept??

Anyone heard of the "black box concept" and how it relates to the osi model?? Can't find any information on it...bummer

Black box refers to anything that you can't see the inner workings of what goes on... like a closed-source program or something. So maybe the relation is with respect to not being able to see how exactly a packet transfers between the layers?
