I have just started to build my first computer and I believe I will have to install an OS on my hard drive. I will be making a AMD 64 3700 san diego. I will be using it mostly for games, well actually all for games. Any suggestions?

theres no point in going 64 bit right now since so few apps/games are optimized for 64 bit. the other advantage of 64bit architechture is being able to address more than 4gb of memory, which you may or may not have.

going thru a living hell right now with all these damn beta 64bit drivers, dont get windows xp 64bit for at least another 3 months to wait for the drivers to mature.

Yeah, XP64 is not much more than a public beta right now, allowing for problems to be found and drivers to stabilize.

WinXP (32-bit, preferable Professional) w/SP2 is your best bet for stable, high-performance gaming.
