OS X: How to imitate it on an x86.

Well my friend just got a Powerbook and he has OS 10.1 on it, and it's pretty sweet.
Basically, I was wondering what OS/ package combo would most closely resemble it. FreeBSD?

Also, do you know of any sites with related info?

Thanks

FreeBSD + Enlightenment w/ the Aqua theme (VERY comprehensive). I've tryed the Englightenment + Aqua on my Linux machine but not on FreeBSD. The GUI part should be the same though. I only recommend FreeBSD for the underlying command-line portion (since OS X is more like BSD than Linux).

Use Darwin and you have the core of OS X. XF86 works "fine" on it. BTW, how the hell did he get 10.1? It isnt supposed to be out for another 6 days or so!

Let's just say he has some connections....I'm sure everyone on this board does

Where/how does one get/use Darwin?

Darwin doesn't have enough hardware support (namely modem, nic, and sound card) to be truly usable on the X86 platform IMHO. Personally if something doesn't have a driver for at least one of my network cards (I've got a lot of them) then it's useless to me.

Blah blah blah. If you want to get as close to OS X on crappy hardware this is the best way. And while he is at it he can write a driver or two 😉

Buy Darwin here
