Os x and swap partitions

When I install linux, I always partition a separate space, formatted as linux-swap, for linux's virtual memory.

Can I do the same in os x?

1) Can I direct os x to use a specific volume as its virtual memory/swap space to the exclusion of others?
2)If so, how should this volume be formatted? Linux-swap? Something else?

No, I don't believe you can, and I'm not sure why you would want to.

OS X dynamically creates swap files as it feels necessary, I have no idea if it's possible or safe to change the location.
