It appears that OS X is only OpenGL 2.1 compliant according to their compatibility documents. Considering how much they were touting OpenCL (do any programs use it yet?) I would think OpenGL 4.2 would be a done deal, since it allows OpenCL to write to the window without CPU aid. You'd also think with the partnership with Intel they would have had them make a OpenGL4.2 compatible graphics core. Is there some underlying reason why they are 3-4 years in standards behind?

You are looking at the "legacy" section.
Click the "core" link at the top left.

Ah thanks, so perhaps that explains the OGL 3.2 support in Ivy Bridge. Does anyone know if Apple has ever ramped OpenGL support in a "dot" update? Or will OpenGL 4.2 have to wait until 10.8 or 11?
