i just reformatted and reinstalled windows xp home for a friend because their dell was runnin like crap since they come that way, but now when it starts up i get this select os window with two versions of xp, the one i just put on and apparently the old one which no longer exists so it wont startup on that one. Now im a perfectionist and this bugs the crap out of me, but im not gona go redo everything i just did so if i cant fix it without reformatting again ill just leave it and tell her to just let the computer start or just press enter. Any insight?

The boot loader is called NTLDR (nt loader) and is controlled by a ini configuration file called boot.ini, so you can edit yourself and fix the stray entry. Look for it in google, I am sure that you can find some samples and structure detail, I haven't messed around with it personally.
