If your BIOS is set to boot from CD first and the computer doesn't boot from the CD, then the drive either isn't attached and working properly, or the CD is not a bootable disc.

...or you neglected to press a key when prompted to "Press any key to boot from CD...."

So, does your new rig boot? What do you mean by "all fuzzy and stuff"? Are you overclocking your MB or video card?

i really dont understand. how is my drive not attached and working properly? it has been the same since day one when i first loaded my OS and all my drivers and what not. i know that the CD and go into setup because i have done it before with the same disk but just on another rig. my last build was a ASUS Premium and now i have the DFI Expert.

about press any key to boot from cd. i do press the button but nothing happens. it just goes. like ill press keys and the periods will still keep going.

about over clocking im not. my rig does boot and goes into windows but what i mean is in the begining when the windows logo pops up its sometimes fuzzy like pixeled. and other times its huge and offset and fuzzy. i thought it was the video card so i RMA'ed it but it is still doing it. do you think its my processor.

how would i go by RMA my processor. i went to newegg and they say that i have to go through AMD.

thanks everyone for your help

Do you have a floppy drive on this pc? If you do, download a Windows 98 bootdisk from bootdisk.com and create a boot floppy. You want a boot floppy with CD Rom support.

http://www.msu-hb.de/download/boot98se.exe

When you boot with the floppy, obviously choose "With CDROM Support" when the menu option appears.

Make note of which drive letter it assigns to your CD drive. When it gets to the A: prompt, (assuming your CD drive will be lettered "E:" for this example), type:

e: (tap enter key)

Now, type:

cd i386 (tap enter key)

Now, you will want the DOS-based XP setup file, which is NOT setup.exe. So, type:

winnt (tap enter key)

XP setup will now begin. If you want to start completely over, I would FDISK and then reformat the hard drive first before going into XP setup. If you just want to repair your current XP installation, do a Repair Install. Here's how:

Is your keyboard using USB or PS/S 2? Sometimes my keyboard can get onto the bootscreen because it doesnt click. When that happens i just bust out my PS/2 adapter and it works fine. You could also just use and old keyboard. Hope this helps.
