os - mobo clash

I gathered up all the spare parts around my place about a week ago and discovered I was able to build a second rig. FIC AZ11E mobo, AMD Thunderbird 1.333, NVIDIA Geforce 256 DDR, 512 SD-RAM, 60 GB IDE. I installed WinXP Pro SP1, and then tried to install the motherboard drivers from the CD ( which I also found, miraculously ). A little window pops up and says: "This OS is not supported". Windows installed it's own drivers for all of the hardware, and everything works fine, but I'd like to be able to install proper drivers from the manufacturer. Is there a way I could get around the WinXP Pro not being supported problem?

Edit:The harddrive is also stuck on UDMA 2. When I tested it on my main rig it was UDMA 5

I know of absolutely no problems with AMD chipset mobo's and Winxp Pro...go to Viatech.com and download the newest Via Hyperion 4 in one drivers for your mobo's chipset...i have built many systems on Via chipset mobo's and never encountered a Winxp pro compatibiltiy issue.

Yeah, Do what XBoxLPU said and get the latest VIA "Hyperion" drivers from viaarena.

there are VIA Hyperion 4in1 drivers, which they say will work for all chipsets, but particularly well for the newest ones.

there are also Retro chipset VIA 4in1 drivers

VIA Hyperion 4in1 drivers are compatible with any VIA chipset. Performance, however, is optimized for the more recent and the latest chipsets. Therefore some users of slightly older or legacy chipsets report that using the older 4.43 drivers they experience a more responsive system.

should i get the retro ones?

You can use the 4.43's if you want.. The Hyperion's just end up easier because they are an .EXE file instead of a zipped file that you have to unzip then run. Either will work though.

system seems to run faster with the newer ones, although maybe that's just my imagination.

HDD it still stuck on UDMA 2. How can I tell if my IDE cable is the slow or fast type ( i don't remember the names )

there are 40 conductor and 80 conductor ide cables ..but both use 40 pin connectors...the 80 conductor cable is the for the faster drives.
