OS for this cheap laptop??

I got a laptop here's the specs, what should I use?
5gb harddrive
celeron 566
288meg ram
24x cdrom and a modem

it's a compaq with HPA (dual scan) screen.. so no gaming I think :(

should run just about anything (not great, but they will all run just fine)
Win 2K, XP, or as everyone was quick to point out your favorite Linux distro

Because the world missed out on BeOS. They could have had the best desktop OS ever, and instead we have Windows and Mac OS X.

hmm...
The world missed out on OS/2 also....and now maybe Mandrake ??

eh, mandrake's just a linux distro. it may have some special features, but it's nothing lightyears ahead - AND - it's all gpl so it can't ever just die off like beos.

and i say NetBSD :D

Exactly. Mandrake is, and I hate to say it, not a loss. BeOS was new and exciting. Mandrake was just one of many Linux distros.
