So, I'm not even sure if this is the correct location for this question, I apologize if it isn't.
So I'm working on building an HP DL360 G7, a dual LGA 1366 based server. I currently have it setup with dual Intel Xeon E5645 CPUs. So far I've spent:
$5 - Barebones HP DL360 G7
$20 - Matching Intel Xeon E5645
I'm looking at what operating system options I have for making this server into a remote editing rig, so far the only options I know are, some version of Windows Server or some Linux distro. Suggestions are welcome:
Future expansion includes a dedicated NAS for all my file storage, which I am also building, so recommendations on whether I should use HDDs or SSDs is welcome.
This is as much of a learning experience for me as it is a hobby for me to figure this out also the end product will allow me to free up my primary computer, a Dell T3500 for other things. So please don't tell me I am wasting me time. it won't deter me from doing this.
