OS boot from cd

I can't find that linux distro that boots completely from the cd. I want to run a little prank on my friend and I can't remeber the name.

Can any of you give more info about Knoppix?

If I download the ISO file and burn it using the proper software, what happens after I boot-up? I mean, the system is using my optical drive as if it is a hard drive right? Is it possible that Linux has no need for swap file? I want to try it out but I also make sure it will NOT mess with my OS installed on my hard-drive...

10x!

Linux doesn't need a swap partition. But it's nice to have. Otherwise you risk invoking the rath of the OOM killer.

Knoppix runs completely from CDROM. In your RAM it will make a little virtual drive you can work with.

If you want you can have Knoppix install itself to your harddrive if you want, but I prefer just to install Debian Sarge, since that's what it is based off of.

STD version is the network security version, and takes a way a lot of the normal programs and replaces them with a bunch of network "hacker" tools. Stuff like packet sniffers, nmap port scanner, and bunches of other security testing tools.
