OS and the gamer

Been wanting to change my OS for awhile now and seems that for a gamer Windows is the only way to go. I am not a huge gamer but do play from time to time and don't want to be bothered with the dual boot option. So is there an alternative for PC's that will handle games?
I have to say I am surprised that no one is challenging Gates to this one.

Consoles. They do games quite well. 😛 (Edit: I'm dumb. Your use of "for" instead of "to" makes the first part of this reply more useless than it was even intended to be).

Why are you down on Windows? What else were you looking into? There are various distros of Linux. I have heard about gaming and virtualization options in Linux, but I don't know much about that, to be honest. Someone else may be able to shed light on that. And then there's OS X. OS X has support for some big games (like CoD4), but you would probably have to invest in a new system, in which case you might as well just keep your XP box.

Well theres like 3 or 4 games out on the mac, OSX. Linux has that wine thing that makes windows games work on linux, they dont always work well though apparently.

Starcraft II is coming on the mac or at least blizzard always used to release mac versions of their games, i think they still do.

oooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh starcrack II more addictive than the first? one could hope. wonder when they will finally release it. gave up on looking forward to it 6 months ago. damn world of warcraft. played it once for five minutes and said enough.
oh and don't get me started on consoles. as much as i love Gears of War and want to play the sequel, I will NOT succumb to the mediocrity that is consoles. what can i say im a PC fanboy.

Pssh.. whatever, there are at least 5 games out for the Mac!

This is coming from the guy that loves his MacBook, but keeps his Windows desktop around just for gaming.

So, basically, you are stuck with Windows, sorry.

There's plenty of Windows emulation and win32 implementation projects, it's just that the amount of work required is insane and since MS is working on new things all the time it's hard to catch up.
