OS 9 not detecting external usb hard drive

i've checked the applications utilities and tried /volumes in terminal.
anything else that might be the problem/reason why it cant be detected?

p.s. preference is checked to show hard drives on desktop

You might, possibly, maybe need the USB Mass Storage driver for that device.
