If you are (and even if you aren't I guess), you've been vindicated as far as I'm concerned in you choice of cars. My grandfather passed on over the summer and left me his 1995 Lincoln Mark VIII LSC (well, sort of LSC, warranty card says LSC, but it lacks LSC badging, though it has LSC wheels, anyway, that's beside the point). The car is friggin' amazing. Effortless power. 26 mpg at 75-80 mph on the freeway. I can put in 10-12 hours behind the wheel without getting uncomfortable (and I have put in that kind of time behind the wheel). Sure, it understeers incredibly through the twisties, and sure, the mileage drops like a stone in the city, but it's one of the greatest freeway cruisers that was ever built. Plus I can fit four full-sized people in it and the trunk swallows an amazing amount of stuff. I know that I haven't been one of the worst opponants of the classic American freeway cruisers, but after this summer I have to say that I take back every bad thing I ever thought about those giants from Detroit. :)

What's eating you? I was just kidding around in the other thread. Lighten up a bit. It's only life, none of us will get out of it alive. :)

EDIT: BatmanNate: I'm comfortable enough in my masculinity to do this: twisties, twisties, twisties, twisties, twisties. :p

Nothing beats big old fat American cars for highway cruising.

BMW may be the ultimate driving machine, but Lincoln makes the ultimate settle your big lard ass in for a long cross country drive machine.

That's pretty much it. Though I think that Porsche does a little better than BMW in the handling department, though I haven't driven any BMW made in the last 21 years. A cross-country trip is exactly what I took the Lincoln on too. Amazing vehicle, the midrange and low-end on the DOHC 4.6 litre V8 is great.

Cool. Seems we both have a bit of getting used to each other to do. :) Should be fun.

Sorry to hear about your grandfather. Looks like he had good taste in cars. Did he buy it new? Man, that's a lot of money if he did. I only buy the used four doors, because they're cheaper. Sure wish they had bigger engines, though. That 4.6 might be enough for that car, but the Town Car could use a little more oomph.

The small details in the car stand out when compared to my wife's more spartan Grand Marquis. She's got the LS, but it just doesn't stack up to the comfort level of the Lincoln. I love the way the buttons, knobs and dials are contoured. So many tiny details that add to the total feel. Her car "rides on rails" and you can have it. If I want a stiff ride, I'll drive an unsprung 3/4 ton truck, thank you. I don't care if I'm driving next door to the mall, twenty miles to Cleveland or a two hundred mile trip, I want legroom, elbow room and a pothole absorbing, cushy suspension... the faster, the better!

The 4.6 in the Town Car is the SOHC engine, 210 HP IIRC. The Mark got the DOHC 4valve 4.6 with 70 or 80 more HP. Grandpa bought it in '97 in his own typical fashion. He was driving his Continental by a car lot, saw the Mark, walked in, traded in the Continental, put the Mark on his credit card, and drove home. According to him, he wanted the long doors to make it easier for him to help Grandma to get in and out, but I know he fell in love with the engine. :) Taking the car on my cross country trip was interesting, it was like having Grandpa along too. He went suddenly (stroke) and the last time I talked with him he told me that he would lend me the car for the trip, he said he'd just drive his pickup while I was gone. He was a good man.
