actually it does, I believe it's due to the width of the beam of the cd laser. My dvd player also plays only cd-rws and not cd-rs. The laser reads those discs differently and that dvd player that is the subject of this thread just doesn't have it's laser adjusted to read cd-rs.

if you mean that doesn't make sense as in it's stupid for it to read one but not the other, I hear ya and totally agree with you, but then again, it's under $100.

Dont get this DVD Plaer it is a piece of crap! My wife got one from amazon and it sucks! Majority of DVD movies that are put in lose sync with audio, or several times during a movie freeze up and begin playing again. Some DVDs will not even play in this player! Sent it back for RMA and got it back the same. Called customer service to get some help and complain... the said there was a updated firmware they could send me. Took them over three months to send it to me and when I got it and followed the directions to a T it still would not update the software. Even tried to get somone to walk me through the update process so tey would not think I was crazy and couldnt get it to work. Well I gave up on te damn thing and just started to use the pc I set up in my entertainment center to play DVD movies and get better reliability and quality out of that. Plus now since I got my audigy I have 5.1 digital decoder built in :)

And BTW I have tried it with a few different CDR discs and t will not read them (tried making some VCD and music CDs)

I can vouch for him....it's a terrible DVD player. It's basically a CD player that has the ability to play DVD's :)

If you are going to go cheap, get the Apex1500. Plays ANYTHING you throw at it--xsvcd/svcd/xvcd/vcd/mpg/mp3(256k and possibly more). $80.00 at Circuit Shi*ty.

It's also hackable to remove the Macrovision and Region protections.
