Orinoco Silver vs Gold: Big difference?

Hi,

I am getting a wireless card for my laptop. I am debating between the orinoco silver or gold card, and i was wondering if there was a major difference in performance. if it makes a difference, this is on a 400 mhz laptop(which to my surprise runs very well on ethernet). thanks.

Difference in the encryption level.

Silver ? 64bits

Gold - 128 bit

If you don't care about encryption you save $20.

If you don't enable encryption, there will be absolutely no difference between the two. If you DO enable encryption, the smaller number of bits in the encryption keys make it faster, but less secure.

wait, so no encryption is the fastest of all options? then is it ggold encryption, then silver encryption? can you clarify?

i thoguht encryption just makes it more secure? i dont care for security i just need performance. thanks.

If you don?t care about encryption, you are going to leave it off, then (as Mr. G post) you will get similar speed.

So, you can buy the less expensive card.

i just found out that the dell truemobile 1150 card is a rebadged orinoco godl card and can be found for around 50....i think i will do that. thanks for your help fellas.

<< Dirty, Noc. Very dirty. 😉 >>

Yeah, but the best part would be when I compile a list of all the information I gather and bring it to the "lady of the house" to give to the neighbor 😉
