Original Unreal v226 on 64 bit XP or Vista?

I'm thinking about setting up a new OS on a spare drive.

But, I'm unsure if I should stay with 32 bit.

I have BOTH 32 and 64 AMD systems, running W2K SP4.
Both use ATi graphics.
The 32 bit is AGP. The 64 bit is PCI-E.

So, I wonder if I should get XP 32 or 64 bit.
And, if I go 64 bit should I get Vista?

I know Unreal runs on XP 32, but not sure about 64 bit.

Anyone still playing besides me?

Ok, so I need some opinions about 64 bit XP or Vista or Win7.

My initial feelings is to get XP 64.
But, what version? XP Home, XP pro, XP standard, system builders CD?

I need some guidance.

Vista 64 Home Premium is $99.99 at newegg.
But I only have 2GB Ram. So, I'm told it runs sluggish.
( I hear 4GB is needed )

Windows 7 retail - 199.99
Windows 7 pro - 299.99
Windows 7 Ultimate - 319.99
( What's the differences? )

Vista 64 Home basic - $89.99
Vista 64 Home premium - $99.99
Vista 64 Pro - $174.99
( What's the differences? )

XP SP2C 64 pro - $139
( Why is this still more expensive than Vista? )

Is XP still my best compatible OS?

I would go Vista. XP 64 just doesn't have the support that Vista does. So it's a safer bet. RAM is cheap. ;)

I'm over at the OS forum reading...

Some say Win 7 is 'lighter' and, that it has the best of Vista and XP.
But, $100.00 more ....

It's better for low spec PCs/Laptops however any modern OS like Vista or Win7 should be run with modern hardware IMHO,btw Vista x64 runs fine with my humble 3800+ X2 CPU.

Gaming wise no real difference between Vista and Win7,link ,do remember retail for Win7 is not due until 22nd Oct.

At this late in the Vista game, i'd say just grab the RC of 7 & use that till you can buy 7.

I use Vista x64 (basically since it came out), but if you are still stuck on XP, i'd just say run release candidate for now; then buy 7 when it's released.

Another option is buy Vista with the free upgrade offer to Win7.

I only see free upgrades on the OEM versions. This is not practical for me, since I have 3 computers.
Anyone see a free upgrade on the Retail version?
