Non-anamorphic transfers with player-generated subtitles that appear below the picture (cutting them off when you zoom in on a widescreen TV).

Lucas will just milk it for another release. Next time it will just be the "Special Editions" without the special additions but will market it as "The Original Trilogy with enhanced sound and picture quality!"

oh Lucas... how I loathe thee

2.0 is fine by me ... the original soundtrack was not a 5.1 mix.

Yes, we know.

It would not have been all that much work or expense to add the 5.1 soundtrack, convert to an anamorphic aspect ratio, clean up the colors a bit, and not fvck with the storyline or add scenes. That is all people have wanted for years. He did it for the special editions after transfering and destroying the orginal negatives (Satan has a special room in hell for directors that chop up the o-negs to landmark films).

Yeah. They look fine to me, but then I don't exactly have a high end home theater set up (27" SDTV) ;) I'm also not the type of person who gets hung up on poor picture quality, etc - I watch movies for the content, not the purty pictures.

I agree (and I have 27" SDTV myself as of now)
Hell I watch most my movies comrpessed to XVID
But there are some movies that I do want clear and crisp as possible... even on my sh!tty setup.
