If you covered your eyes for a week straight, you'd notice you could hear more.
*I don't recommend trying this. After a week of being exposed to minimal oxygen, arteries and veins would begin to form inside the eye for oxygen supply.

Why? It was a serious post.
The artery and vein formation is a very common problem for people who wear and sleep in contacts - my optomotrist gets on me about it all the time. Causes you to see little squiggly stuff when the vein formation is minimal. As vein formation progresses, your vision becomes more and more impaired.
EDIT: And when I said covered, I meant eye lids taped shut and those little cups placed over, not just "hold your hand over your eye".

Yeah I know it was a serious discussion, it's just unfortunate that there are some complete idiots in the world, a lot of which browse the internet just like you and me and, there's a chance that if they were to see that particular post they might just be stupid enough to try it out and then tell someone "oh I saw someone mention this on Anantech Forums so I'm trying it out", which then could cause Anandtech to be held responsible.
Now after reading that I personally think that is the most ridiculous theory on the planet, BUT it's possible
I'm still for "Over worked, over zealous, under paid, under appreciated moderators. " myself![]()
