Hello! I just finished watching the original DotD. I've gotta say, while it's just great and I loved it... I found the whole thing quite laughable. It was like a zombie comedy than a horror movie. Except in a few parts, like when flyboy is alone in that utility room, that was freaky. But seriously, this is touted by many as the best horror movie ever made? With slapstick crap like plenty of pies in the face and seltzer water (literally) how is it a real "scary movie"?

If you had watched it when it originally came out it would've been much scarier.

Why don't people understand that society has become more sophisticated viewers when it comes to certain genres? Things aren't the same now that they were so many years ago.

I was three when it came out, and I completely understand cinema has evolved, but people still tout it's wonders to this day. Maybe we're just all desensitized. I still thought it was a cool movie ;D

People tout old movies like that because of their impact at the time, not the impact they still have.

It's the same reason Citizen Kane is usually considered the greatest movie of all time.

Citizen Kane is honestly in my top ten movies ever made, as is Casablanca... Was dawn of the dead one of the first real 'gross' color horror films?

That was part of the appeal... it was horror with comedy. Some people who don't like the remake think it's because it lacks the comedy of the original.

And just because it's touted as one of the best horror movie, doesn't mean it is one of the scariest movie.
