The ONLY scene I wish they hadn't F'd with is the Greedo scene. Other than that I like all the other additions.

FWIW - These are supposed to be transfers from the old laser-disc versions.

Didn't know that, so is the quality going to be crap?

Also I'm sure George Lucas is going to pull the same crap with the new formats of Blu-Ray and HD-DVD that he did with the DVD format and wait forever (if ever) before releasing them to those formats.

You liked the end of the Return of the Jedi scene?

Showing the new Coruscant, Naboo, etc, using Ep 1, 2, 3 scenery? And then of course they throw in Hayden Christensen as Anakin to replace whatever guy played Anakin before, so Mark Hamill is looking at someone younger than he is? Hahhaha. I think that was f-ed up. Star Wars fans have debated this heavily, but I chose my side, adn I'm against that. It's not THAT bad, but I just don't feel it's right.

I have the trilogy on VHS, but I have the DVDs that came out last year with the added crap. THey're not special edition either, so why the hell did they make these DVDs.

yep, straight from the analog format, not remastered or messed with.

Lame IMO. They should at least rebalance the colors and audio.

Stop buying all this crap that Lucas puts out. You might as well just wait for the HD version because you know you will buy that one too. :p

Yes, but I don't feel like waiting the 15 years it will take for him to work his way back to releasing HD versions of the unaltered films.

Yup, it's non-anamorphic video that's based off old laserdisc transfers. Heck, the sound is only Dolby 2.0.

I recommend buying it only if you don't want to impress your friends with your new home theater system.

Yeah, which is why I'm considering not getting this version. I'd be better off sticking to my THX remastered VHS versions.

ok that may be stretching it ;) But I prefer the original versions to all the added junk but I don't understand why they can't just use the THX remasters.

OMFG

It's been reported previously that when Lucas went back to the original negatives of the Star Wars films in the mid 1990s, they were found to be in bad shape. Such bad shape, in fact, that had they not been restored immediately, the films could have been lost forever. So restoration is exactly what Lucas had done. Except that when he was creating the new 1997 Special Edition versions of the films... he cut the original negatives. So the original negatives of the theatrical versions no longer exist. Okay, we knew that. But what's the big deal? What about the original interpositive prints? What about high-quality release prints? Why can't Lucasfilm just use either of those elements to do a new transfer for DVD?

Well... at the same time as he was preparing the 1997 versions, Lucas apparently went on a little tear and recalled every release print of the theatrical versions that he could get his hands on, and he had them all destroyed. Which means that when Lucas said back in 1997 that the original theatrical versions of the Star Wars films no longer existed, he was serious. He apparently tried hard to make sure of it.

If he truely destroyed the original cut's negatives in his re-editing he's a bigger prick then I ever thought possible.

Yet another South Park episode comes to life...

I was shocked when I saw that and had to pull out my old version of VHS to show my son what it's supposed to look like. Lucas has a real problem with the "just because you can, doesn't mean you should" concept! Fvck him...

By me, IIRC :)

The bad thing about this release is that it'll be in 2.1 sound or something like that. They said the sound will be like the laser disc version.

Some of the customer reviews are pretty entertaining.
