Just got an email announcing this and I'll be grabbing it as soon as I get home. Most of the free games they offer aren't anything to write home about (imo) but this one is a full fledged RPG, albeit not one of Bioware's most revered (it was reviewed pretty highly at release but general consensus is it hasn't held up especially well).

Good one to pick up for a rainy day if nothing else.

Nice! That's actually a quality game. I remember a buddy was obsessed with that game in college, lol. He played the shit out of it and kinda turned myself and a couple other guys on to it. This was the original Xbox version.

I'd pick this up but I doubt I'd ever play it. I suppose though... if it's free...

If I create an EA account, can I simply download the game (which I'll probably never play), or do I have to go install an Origin program similar to STEAM? Are there any downsides to doing so?

Have to install Origin. No big downside really. They give out free old games every so often. I barely pay attention, but I've gotten Jade Empire, Peggle, Sim City 2000, Sims 2, Syndicate, Theme Hospital, Ultima VIII, and Zuma's Revenge for free. Certainly nothing incredible.. but some of it is good for a few entertaining hours here or there when I'm on a laptop.

It's very similar to Bioware other games, like Neverwinter Nights 2. It's a great deal for free.

One great thing, it's original! Not a sequel or licensed piece. I enjoyed all the way through!

Good game, but I found the combat tedious. I played it on the hardest difficulty, and it wasn't a challenge anyway, so I'd recommend just playing it on the easiest mode so you can spend as little time in combat as possible.
