So last night I got email after email about successfully purchasing a couple of games.

All games were 0 Euro - I'm a US based customer.

I got Theme Hospital, Sims 48 hour pass, and a bunch of free stuff. Then morning I got an email saying I have successfully enabled 2 factor authentication. Then another one saying I successfully changed my password.

I got worried and changed my password which thankfully worked. I still doubt my account got hacked and this was EA doing all this. They did get me to change my previously weak password.

This was just a weird way to get me change my password. Or did I get hacked? Did anyone else have this happen?

maybe someone set up your email account in their profile, on accident?

It sounds like your account was compromised. They have to have you enable two factor authentication yourself, it's not something that they can do unilaterally. The problem will now be getting that turned off or changed so that you get the two factor authentication messages. It may well require a call to EA but do login to your account and see if you can change the two factor authentication so that it's sending the messages to your cell phone.

I was able to change the password by using "forgot my password" and that caused it to send me an email saying two factor authentication was disabled. I then successfully changed the password. Then later today I got an email saying that another password reset was attempted.

I think I got lucky in that the hacker did not change the email on the account, because I would have been screwed. Thanks to all messages being sent to my email I was able to recover the account. Also I'm sure I have a stored credit card, but the hacker did not know my CVV code. So only free games were added to my account. I think someone just took my account out for a joyride.

They will keep trying to regain access to your account. I had what appeared to be someone in Russia trying to gain access to my account. I received an e-mail that a support ticket had been opened to try and get a password reset performed on my account. They weren't able to and I've already gone ahead and changed the password on my account (although the previous one was quite strong) and enabled two factor authentication. Someone (or a bot) is still trying to gain access to the account since I usually get a few SMS messages a week with the two factor authentication message in Russian. So I would recommend that you enable the feature and set it to your cell phone.

Thanks I'm going to do that now.

EDIT: Yes, someone changed my country to Latvia and added a Mass Effect 2 user ID. They also changed the answer to my security question. I can't do anything except email support.

Wow support will call me in 12 minutes. They actually have support! Too much to say for Steam.

EA sorted this out in 2 minutes. I'm very impressed.

People like to moan about Origin; but if you have an issue they are fairly quick to resolve it. EA seems is actually learning customer service goes a long way.

Steam well; sometimes they resolve things.......

That's abit scary to see SXR......I'm glad it's all working out.

Yeah, Origin's been getting slammed a lot in here and always made me think twice.......BUT, I've been using it for 18 months without any issues. So, possibly they're winning back that confidence from peeps they may have lost earlier.

Make sure you are not getting spoofed into logging into a fake origin site. Then they have your log in.
