Origin: BF1942 for Free! (again) :)

Played it a year ago when they first offered it. Feels ancient but I loved it so much back in the day.

I think they should offer BF2 because it is a little more modern but I wonder if they think that will cut into their sales of newer BF games.

They are offering it because they want everyone to sign up for Origin but I think a more modern game would entice more people.
 
Yeah its still a good game. They have servers up and everything, I play in them but it does feel ancient but still what got me hooked on the battlefield series. The giant maps and Planes and the Desert combat was awesome back in the day.
 
can i put in my OLD original BF42 game and code and play... or do i have to install Origin?Is it just Origin if i want it free? After I had that on my machine once, wont do it again, but BF42 is still one of the greatest MP fps out, would love to play it again.
 
I agree - Desert Combat mod was awesome back then! That's when I made the switch from Quake III / UT games to the BF series. 🙂
 
I loved playing as an arty gunner, either vehicle or shipboard, in '42. Really need more rolls like that.
 
Thanks for posting this. I downloaded it last night. I hadn't played it in a couple of years because of the Punkbuster issue it used to have. It is kind of ancient looking but I still enjoy it. I played it last night and there were a lot of servers and over 200 people playing. I played Tobruk and there were 40 people on that server. It is simplistic but I think I enjoy 1942 almost as much as BF3. BTW, if you were playing Tobruk and kept getting snipered, that was me.

load up my half track at the top of omaha beach with fellow germans, speed down the beach running over allies, jumping out and watching the loaded vehicle crash 😀

I think you missed a there ?

As much as I hated EA and any of their games that did not allow me to remap the keyboard keys, this game was hugely popular on our game server (Cains Lair) back in the day.

haha I definitely missed something.

I forgot there was no ADS, and while the maps were big, its mainly just empty space. Sheesh....spend a good amount of time going from point to another, then a plane will destroy you when you are in the middle of nowhere. No sprinting, only run or a really slow walk. Only one weapon per class, no kit customization, etc. I think over the years all my memories of all the Battlefields just merged into one mythical Battlefield game that I never actually played. It was still fun, but then it made me want to play the more current Battlefields. Funny how many people are still playing BC2. And FYI, this game will look weird, because it wasn't updated at all, so no true widescreen support.
 
Thanks, I went ahead and installed origin for the first time to get the free game. I think origins not as awful as I've heard but maybe haven't been using it much yet.

When I purchased my graphics card, I got Crysis3 and installed Origin. I wasn't aware of any any issues with Origin at the time, and I can truly say, I have yet to run into any issues. All my games work as advertised.
