Just got an email of a new EA service using Origin (yes, I know the horrors). For those of us with no issues with Origin, $4.99 gives access to 15 games initially in their Vault. And these are not all old games, as you would expect with a name like "Vault", but a combination of old and new alike, including:

Dragon Age Inquisition
BF4
Plants v Zombies Garden Warfare
This War of Mine

https://www.origin.com/en-us/store/browse/origin-membership

$5/month isn't bad if you don't own the games. Not sure if the games are going to rotate like Xbox Live or Sony's Playstation thing, or if the Vault is going to increase.

That's pretty neat! $5 a month is a great price and I don't really mind Origin anymore. Will definitely check it out once it comes to Europe (Denmark).

Yeah, I just saw the e-mail as well.
Seems like a good deal if you wish to rent stuff.

They don't mention how long this current set of games will last, or what happens in the next cycle, in other words, if you pay $5, and install all these 15 games, the next time it changes, are you still able to access the previous games?

Here is the fine print that I saw...
Limitations and exclusions may apply; for upcoming EA PC titles eligible for Play First Trials and Exclusive Discount, and for current EA PC titles available in the Vault, and current details on other membership benefits, see www.origin.com/origin-access/terms. Internet connection, EA Account, acceptance of EA Privacy & Cookie Policy, Terms of Service and Origin and Product End User License Agreements (“EULAs”), and installation of the latest version of the Origin Client Software (www.origin/about) and applicable game software required. EULAs and additional disclosures can be found at http://www.ea.com/1/product-eulas. EA Privacy and Cookie Policy and Terms of Service can be found at www.ea.com. Must be 13+ to create an EA Account. Origin Access membership is non-transferable and limited to one EA Account per membership. EA may retire Origin Access and/or online digital content services after 30 days’ notice at www.ea.com/1/service-updates, by email, or on Origin.com. Recurring renewal payments will be taken from your selected payment method according to your subscription purchase. You may cancel your digital content subscription at any time here. After cancellation, you can continue to play until the end of the current subscription period. After your subscription period ends, you will not have further access to membership benefits, including Vault titles, game upgrades, or in-game purchases made in a Vault title unless you separately have access to that Vault title. The Vault: Vault titles require an Internet connection to confirm an active Origin Access subscription upon initial launch of Origin Access Game software and every 30 days thereafter for online and offline play. Games may require additional Content Protection Technology (“CPT”) as well as the installation of EA or Punkbuster Anti-Cheat Software. Certain Origin Access Games may also collect data for in-game advertising. See the game EULAs & disclosures page at http://www.ea.com/1/product-eulas for more game-specific details. Play First Trials: Limited trial requires persistent Internet connection. Exclusive Discount: Excludes Star Wars the Old Republic, select partner titles distributed or developed by EA, game time codes and subscriptions.

Too little too late EA. Steam has me hooked on buying hundreds of games for cheap I will never play. To me that is a much better deal than paying a monthly fee to access hundreds of games I will never play.

lmao, yeah that's a pretty fair assessment of my Steam collection.

I can see a Netflix for PC gaming working out.

They just don't have the library to make it compelling enough.

Yeah, it is kind of vague, but their in your face advertisement leaned towards an increase in the library and not a rotation of the library. We'll see. I'm seriously considering doing it. It's less than a day's lunch.

Ugh, just saw this in the fine print:

Certain Origin Access Games may also collect data for in-game advertising.

That may be why the price is so low.

What is the knock on Origin? I've had it for a few games for the last 2+ years (BF4, NFS Rivals, PvZ GW and a bunch of freebies) and have never had an issue with it.

The "knock" is that it's owned by EA.....the bastard devil of the PC gaming world.

At least that's what I've been told.

I've used both for years, but still prefer Steam.

Not too bad, don't like the data collection but if it's something basic I guess that's fine, no different than my Gmail account.

This has regularly been on sale for $25 for a years subscription for the xbox one at newegg. I wonder if/when the price will be the same for PC?

It's just like EA Access on Xbox One. You get a bunch of "free" games so long as you subscribe and probably a 10% discount on in game purchases and new EA games. It is lacking the bigger new games until they get old and about 6-8 months before the new sports game comes out, they put the current one up (so, in a few months Fifa 16 will be available, for example).

Never got the hate for Origin. I don't mind it. Sure it's not Steam but it's definitely better than the Ubisoft client (uplay).

My big beef is no Big Picture Mode. That is one of my favorite parts about Steam. I pretty much refuse to buy EA games until they develop one.

Never used big picture mode and I never got the ridiculous love for steam and valve. It's always been DRM and the sales are not a reason to love a platform imo. I don't mind Origin, but I only start it when I need it to play a game. It actually had features before Steam (custom install locations, for example).

Big Picture means a lot to me because I mostly game on the couch with a controller. I also like it because it helped me convince friends to get into PC gaming instead of a modern console, which means I don't have to buy a PS4 to play games with my friends.

Valve creates great games, and Steam was the first digital distribution platform with DRM (aka major games) that didn't get in your way. The sales are just icing on the cake.

Does anyone know if this includes all the DLC for the game mentioned, or is just the base game?

Valve createD great games. Origin doesn't get in your way.

They also run sales.

This is exactly why the gaben love is stupid. The reasons are not exclusive. The only reason I get is wanting to consolidate your library.

I honestly think Big Picture, while neat, does literally nothing to get people into PC gaming. As soon as they have to start tweaking settings and updating drivers and blah blah blah, they'll remember again why they were on consoles to begin with.

Why is Big Picture Mode necessary to play games on your TV with a controller? I've been doing that for a while with games that are linked to my Steam account without using Big Picture Mode, and even DRM free games work just fine. What about Big Picture Mode makes the experience of playing games better with it than without?
