LOL This kind of action doesn't make the University look very good.

A class with no teacher run by students on male sexuality is back up on double secret probation :D

This is that same class that was suspended for taking the class to a male strip club where the students engaged in sexual performances with the dancers. LOL

When I was in college, Film was considered the easy class :D

EDIT: Texmaster edited his original post. My reply below was to his original post bashing berkeley. i guess i got angry over that.
the rest of it is just personal opinion so we can talk about all we want i guess.
... blah blah blah

Hey deepshit. Why you gotta bash a school for something you saw on TV when you don't know sh1t about the program and what all the decal classes are about?

You're from texas right? Should i generalize too that you're some dumbass in a cult or millitia just because of some stupid sensasional news stories i saw some years ago on tv? maybe you are.

LOL I know a class run without teachers caught offcampus in sexual acts for credits should be suspended a little longer than a month! LOL

Why don't you go read about the story instead of spewing this ignorance?

Save yourself the embarassment :)

"No teacher" is sorta subjective. Decals are student run but there are at least faculty coordinators, and most have faculty advisors, guest lecturers, etc.

<< This is that same class that was suspended for taking the class to a male strip club where the students engaged in sexual performances with the dancers. LOL >>

No...not with the dancers. The leader of the class sexed up the dancers...The rumor is that within the class, there would often be loads of group orgies

Exactly my point! ;) why don't you go read about it too? what can you tell me about the decal courses? who teaches them? same student-instructor every semester?

i live in berkeley. went to berkeley.
why don't you read too about this.
the decal classes are not taught by the same student-instructors every semester. did you happen to know that???
most of them are quite interesting filler classes on subjects that ppl might find interesting but you would not be able to find being taught at any other school.

my question is: why bash the school for one imbecil who tought one class one semester?

no need. there's not much more to argue about here. arguing also would imply a willingness by both parties to learn as much as possible about the subject being argued, right?

InfectedMushroom,

You know, judging by the way you just jumped out of your @ss and all over Texmaster, I'd say you're the one being a bit, uh, rude.

First off, he's not bashing, at least not in his original post. Here it is (in case you didn't really read the whole thing)

<< LOL This is yet another reason why Berkeley deserves no respect.

Is he poking fun? Yes, he is. He can do that if he wants to. AND even if he was bashing it, that's also his option.

This class is obviously a filler class for "liberal-minded" "free-thinking" type folks. And yes, Berkeley is prolly the only institution in the country where this would be allowed. I don't see a reason for you having such a defensive attitude about this....Texmaster wasn't being mean or offense, yet you took it personally.

Oh well. It's your bag of issues...I have my own to lug around. Have fun.

Oh it's definitely too liberal... :)

But I don't think should preclude it from being considered a very good school

MichaelD his first line of the thread is:

<< LOL This is yet another reason why Berkeley deserves no respect. >>

That sounded like bashing the school to me.

Well I don't think you should be bashing a school when you don't know much about the programs. Funny how these things get so sensationalized. The male sexuality class you are talking about is a decal class (which stands for democratic education at cal) that is not part of the regular curriculum at Cal. These classes are taught by students on subjects that would not normally be offered at most universities. The classes only get 1/2 to 1 unit credits and they are all non-graded. So basically people take these classes because they volunteer their time to learn about a subject they are interested in. The curriculum is developed by students and the class is taught by students. I've taken classes that ranged from mentoring under privelaged youth in Richmond, to a course on the influence of Japanese Anime on American culture. I highly respect these classes because the students who run them put in a lot of their time to teach a subject they are enthusiastic about.

The male sexuality class you are talking about (and also the female sexuality class) offered an arena for people to explore an issue that is often taboo to the public. The class encourages people to learn about sexuality and these include watching porn and going to strip clubs. However I note... these activities are only suggested as a voluntary activity only. No one is pressured into doing something they are not comfortable with. Eventually throughout the semester, people get to know each other really well, so when you participate in these activities, you're not doing it with a group of strangers. This type of class also allows a broad range of people, ranging from heterosexual, bi, and gay to come together and talk about their sexuality without feeling threatened.

I agree that Berkeley has it's problems (believe me being a student here for the past 3 years, I've seen some horrible BS), but this whole story was so sensationalized by the media it was pretty lame. I had cousins phoning me from other states asking me about this stuff. It's just sad that people don't recognize the academic achievements an institution makes anymore.

Maybe you want to learn a little more before you bash stuff. You'll probably go and flame me now for being a liberal hippie... but hey.. that just proves my point if ya do now huh?

We are still in the second semester little buddy Feburary and March are still the same Semester. :)

And this is supposed to mean what....a more responsible STUDENT teaching a college course? ROFLOL!!

<< most of them are quite interesting filler classes on subjects that ppl might find interesting but you would not be able to find being taught at any other school. >>

LOL Oh I'm sure they are! LOL

<< my question is: why bash the school for one imbecil who tought one class one semester? >>

Any University STUPID enough to allow students (not even TAs) to "teach" a course about sexuality, have that kind of embarassing moment and then resume the class in less thana month with the only guidleine being that the Student teachers have to cheak in once a week? LOL Thats just plain and simple ignorance.

<< ["No teacher" is sorta subjective. Decals are student run but there are at least faculty coordinators, and most have faculty advisors, guest lecturers, etc. >>

I also continue to maintain that we're not talking about kids here, these are adults taking these courses, and they are old enough to decide for themselves what's right and wrong.
As long as there is no penalty to students who do not wish to go to nudey bars and extracurricular orgies, it's fine.
Further, there are so many bad and useless professors out there, a student-run class is a good idea. I found that a good deal of my learning always came from working closely with my classmates....often the teacher just lead me in circles.
Once again, someone dropped the ball in this situation, but we should at least give Berkeley credit for at least being willing to try a new approach to education where so many school just take the money and run.

(Munching more popcorn)

Well, I guess maybe that first line could be construed by someone who is very "school-spirit-minded" as bashing...but it could have been said in a very derogatory manner, but was not.

I respect your opinion that you are entitled to, though. Just wanted to point out that you did blow the guys head clean off his shoulders. That's all. :)

Your right Bomberman. Berkeley is not a poor scholastic university Sorry about that :)

I changed the opening thread :)

But you have to admit, this reopening of this class is pretty stupid considering the press around it.
