Organize Music

Mission:
Develop the most efficient way to auto organize (tag, filename, locations...etc.) a large media library.

I'm hoping that by discussing various methods/applications, currently in use by all of you, we can collaborate and come up with a ultimate guide to organizing a large media library.

Software / Tools:
Mediamonkey was one recommendation made to me - I want to know what else is out there. If there's a particular program for example that performs a particular task better than others.

Technique:
What's the best way to do this?! Even if you have all the right software what's the best way to clean it all up?? In what order should which programs be run to get the ideal results? Most solutions I've come across lead me to believe I should expect auto id programs to generate a certain number of unknowns - is there a way to deal with this to??

I'm primarily looking for a good technique to deal with 100GB+ of media. Organizing entails:
>Auto searching the net for correct file info. names and updating the tags as well
>Placing them in the appropriate folder locations (genre\artist\album\track - artist - title.mp3)
>Removing duplicates by automatically contrasting duplicates to determine the best quality and completeness maybe even check for scratches

Windows Media Player 11:

Auto organizes music imported in to library. (structure defaults to: album artist\album\## track.mp3)
Auto organizes ripped music
Auto downloads album art (usually)
Mass tagging capability (for mp3s and wmas anyway)

I never knew Windows Media Player could do that. I use iTunes myself and it does a great job. It works similarly to WMP as posted above. Before I did everything manually and I used Audio Magus as a good MP3 renamer.

I think MS has some underrated products. WMP11, Windows Media Encoder, Windows Live Photo Gallery, and Windows Live Writer, Windows Live Mail...to name a few...actually most of the "Live" family of products have turned out to be fairly competent product updates.

quite true. i make use of the organizing feature in WMP11 a lot. it's very decent. it automatically does it and works quite well.

I like itunes for this. I make a new folder and tell it to save my whole library to that. Organize everything and here is the big one, modify volume levels so they are more even and 1 song is not super quiet while the next blows your ears off. Takes a long time for it to do all this but it doesn't require your attention.
