I was at Trader Joe's grocery yesterday and saw something interesting.

Anyone tried these organic tampons before? Do they taste better than the non-organic variety?

/sarcasm.

I'm gonna go back there again this weekend. I think its worthy enough for a camera pic.

Seriously, what's the advantage of using organic cotton in tampons?

You're the one shopping at Trader Joes... you tell me why you would shop there over your local food mart.

people buy organic because it is natural which means it is better for the environment and the consumer. common sense really.

I think it might have to do with the chemicals used in the material. I've heard that some tampons use rayon, and that some chemical in it it could be a cause of toxic shock syndrome. That, and apparently commercially-produced cotton is generally raised with loads of pesticides and various other potentially dangerous chemicals, in addition to the bleach used to whiten it.

Thus the idea behind organic tampons would be to eliminate the use of any toxins during production.

Just a quick check of the AT intellectual base:
Does anybody here actually know what "organic" really means?

I had the notion that it had to be green-conscious the way that Jeff7 described it.

Other than that, I really don't know what it really means and I usually equate organic to foods and not tampons.
