The bill gives Oregon the highest statewide minimum wage rates in the nation, to $14.75 inside Portland's urban growth boundary, $13.50 in midsize counties and $12.50 in rural areas by 2022.

This was a compromise the legislature and governor came up with because there was a ballot initiative to raise it to $15 statewide by 2019.

Currently it's $9.25.

I don't really like the idea of a tiered minimum wage, but it is true that Portland and rural Oregon have vastly different costs of living. It will be interesting to see how it works out.

How about:
students under 21, max 15 hours per week: $9/hr, $13/hr after 15hrs.

Part time and/or without benefits: $15/hr (yes, higher)

Full time (minimum 30 hrs/week) with healthcare: $13/hr

Index to inflation. Should be sorted for the next 20-30 years and we can stop whining about it.
