Oregon Airshow Tragedy

2) I though the airshow wasn't until August/September, did they move it up recently?

They had it earlier this year. I was glad...last year it took me over an hour to get my kids from school on the first day of the show (normally takes 30 minutes to make that drive, the last five minutes of the drive took 35.) This year they had no headliners (couldn't get the Thunderbirds or Blue Angels or anyone else 'big'.) This is the first one I missed in the last couple years. I did see the planes flying around though. They even made it up over our house (about 12 miles from the airport.)

And yes, it seems like terribly sad irony that he died this way.
 
Not so ironic. I guess he loved planes and knew much about it.

More sad, I think. Still, I'd like to own a plane.
 
I have friends who live near a small airport. There property is semi-rural, so they've got about 3 or 4 acres with a couple of horses and stuff. Anyway, their next door neighbor has a similar property, and a few years back some guy lost power on take-off in his homebuilt airplane and crashed into thier neighbor's barn. That's probably only about 300-400 feet from thier house. The pilot of the plane died, and the whole barn burned down. Was a little scary, having a plane crash that close to good friends of mine.
 
The one good thing about it is that nobody but the pilot was killed, and there was only one minor injury (a firefighter with heat exhaustion.) The owner of the home wasn't home, the 3 neighboring homes that were damaged/caught fire were either empty or they got out, even the dog in the home of the one house that was obliterated somehow got out. If the plane had gone down one block to the East, it could've hit New Season's, a grocery store that most likely had upwards of 100 people in it.

For anyone who knows Hillsboro, it went down about halfway between Intel's Hawthorn Farm and Ronler Acres, about a block due north of First Tech Credit Union and about a block west of New Season's in a small residential area.
 
What a bummer🙁 His plane was there on static display, not even a flying participant in any airshow.
I've flown into that airport dozens of times, but can't picture the neighborhood from the videos.

Perhaps they should seek out a lawyer who specializes in plane crashes? (more irony)
 
With all due respect, I fail to see how this is a tragedy. The late Mr. Guilford chose a relatively dangerous hobby and there was a fatal accident. Luckily, nobody who DIDN'T choose to fly vintage military jet fighters in their spare time died. It's too bad for his family, but I don't have much sympathy for him.
 
Absolutely amazing no one on the ground was injured in the crash. I used to live a few blocks from there and would watch the air-show from our roof. There is dense housing all over near there at Orenco and surrounding the light rail line. Wow 🙁

Normally if a tree or something falls on YOUR house then YOUR homeowners insurance pays for the damages. If a some OTHER persons car runs into YOUR house than the OTHER persons car insurance pays for YOUR damages. So my dumb@ss question was do planes have to carry collision insurance?

Most likely THEIR homeowner's insurance would pay upfront, then sue the estate of the pilot for the damages.
