Oreck Vacuums?

I've been hearing about these vacuums for a looooooooong time, they're in my mail and on the radio. Are these the end-all of vacuums? I've never seen them in the regular department stores and in fact have only seen them available by mail order and phone. The guy (presumably Mr. Oreck himeslf) claims that hotels all over the world uses them.

Well, any ATOTers use that particular vacuum? Uh, any vacuum recommendations as I am curious about those bagless "vacuum windtunnel" models with HEPA filters... My old one seems to put out fine dust while sucking up the dustballs.

my parents have an oreck xl upright or whatever the hell it's called... they like it alright as a vacuum cleaner, but what they like most is that it's super light (like, under 8 lbs or something) and therefore easy to do stairs.

Oreck is that one that says its lightweight and can hold a bowling ball for so many years, right?

If so, studies have shown that for 99% usage, which is main.y home consumers, getting a $200 vacuum cleaner at a department store is almost as good as if not equal to a $500 oreck. As for us, we just picked up some random $60 vacuum. The difference between it and our old one wich my parents spent some more money on, I think $200, there isn't a visible difference. I guess if you track lots of mud or dirt in your house, the $200 is well spent, but for most use there isn't a need.

That was my mom was looking into an oreck. One thing I should tell you, Antoneo, is that if you go out and buy a $70 vacuum, remove the accessories from it, its as light or lighter. Granted, you won't have them right there, but when you're just doing the floors of a room or something, it won't make a big difference.

Lightweight. But the compromise is:
The handle is the vacuum tube and is a smaller diameter than most vacuum tubes so it gets clogged a bit more frequently. Otherwise it's a decent vacuum cleaner but for the same money you can get one that cleans better if you are willing to deal with a heavier load.

I have an Oreck
the impeller blade broke,Not under warranty,
it was about $55 installed at the local store,i could not get the thing off,
{they used an impact at the store}

3 months later the electric motor died..

I bought a Dirt Devil bagless Featherlight at Walmarts

it works Better than the oreck did,has no stupid bags, and was about $100.

this one

Dirt Devil Featherlite Vision Bagless Upright Vacuum

$86.87

Lighter weight than most similar bagless uprights, the Dirt Devil Featherlite vision bagless upright vacuum is well priced for its many features and conveniences. Easy to transport; easy to maneuver on even deep pile.

My mother-in-law bought one, unbeknownst to me. She swore by it, because it was so light. It died after a few years due to a bearing in the motor or something... not sure. She replaced it with a Simplicity and paid too much for that, too. Simplicity makes a great vacuum, but priced too high. They seem to fix the price higher than similar vacuums, like Panasonic, Sharp and Riccar.

The Oreck is NOT a by-pass type system. Almost all other vacuums have gone this direction. That way, you aren't sucking debris right through the impeller.

Panasonic and Sharp vacuums are the best compromise between cleaning ability, quality, durability, and price. IMHO, Sharps carry the crown for the $100-$200 segment, and Panasonics are hard to beat for $200-$300. Anything more expensive than a good Panasonic is a waste of money in my view.

As for bagless vacuums, many people like them. I personally don't care for bagless vacuums, because they must be emptied a lot more often (they usually have a much smaller capacity), and that's a mess in itself to deal with.

Where would I find these Sharp or Panasonic vacuums cleaners? I don't see them at bestbuy so uh they must be pretty good then 🙂. Hrmm, is there such a thing as a economical (under $200), quiet, and powerful vacuum cleaner?

Is the bagless feature just hype or do they work as well as their bagged counterparts? I don't mind cleaning the filter often...
