Ordred Sapphire 7850 non-oc, 1200/5800 realistic?

Nothing is in stock over here in Europe! First I ordered an MSI TFIII, which was then delayed 3 weeks; then a Sapphire OC which has just been delayed for a few weeks as well. Now I've put in an order for a Sapphire Non-OC, but I'm wondering whether it's as likely to reach proper clocks as any of the other chips? Has anyone got experience with it, or other non-oc editions?

For a custom, probably yes. Otherwise a gamble and very difficult on reference cooling

Yea I know reference coolers are sub-par, would never go there. This Sapphire is, on the surface at least, identical to the OC edition, it simply isn't factory over clocked.
I've read people saying it's more difficult to OC, while others have gotten it to 1200+ like the rest of the cards. Seems its luck-of-the-draw like with any GPU.
Was hoping someone could provide me with some insight so I could put my mind at ease

1200 isn't a guarantee.

My current Asus 7850 is an awesome chip, one of the best I've seen. Lucked out. (some cards come with stock voltage at 1.21v, I am stable at 1250/1375 @ 1.215v)

I had a 2nd Asus 7850 that needed 1.24v just to be stable at 1175. Completely crappy compared to my first card. I sent the crappier card back, but mostly due to poor crossfire support right now and being happy with the performance of one 7850 O/C'd.


My Thoughts!

No need to go any higher than 5500 on Memory. I find going past 5500 (1375) memory does little to increase FPS, but increases temps and possibly voltage requirements when going past 1375.

Try to find your sweet spot on the core with 1375 memory, then if you want, see how much more you can raise memory without increasing voltage further.

The cooler itself seems very recommendable, for my 90 degree case just like the DirectCU II on asus 7850.
No difference in temps from asus to sapphire's coolers.

If you get lucky chip, its plausible.

Check your stock volts, mine where 1.135 .
If they're that it should do 1200 @ 1.2v without issues, also 1250 @ max voltage for Trixx (1.225)

The cooler will be the largest limiting factor for you. Once you start raising voltage that temp will climb pretty quick.

I get my non-OC sapphire 7850 today. Probably no binning since OC version has such a small overclock.

I hope to get 1050 core on stock voltage and at least 1150 stable with safe voltage tweaks. Anything better will be a bonus for me.

Just have to remember these cards are just defective 7870 chips that didn't make the cut. Some overclock great. Some don't.

I have a non-OC Sapphire 7850 and the cooler is custom which (I assume) is equivalent to the OC version. I haven't tried OC'ing it yet but I want to get it up to an even 1GHz. That way I can put '7850 1GHz Edition' in my Sig and see if anybody catches it.

I have only seen one post that someone was unable to hit 1050. Don't remember which card though.

Depends on the game. BF3 benefits more from faster memory. Also the memory voltage is different then vcore voltage. Doesn't have any aspect on core overclocking.

1100-1150 is sorta a guarantee. The rest is gamble. But focus first on the core and then on the memory. Anyway, performance difference in going from 1150 to 1200 is barely 3-4% but the temps/volts are pretty high for that

Which benchmark is best to use for actual gaming performance? I believe Unigine isn't very stressful or something; I also have Crysis 2 bench, would this be better to gauge actual gains from clocks?

Crysis 2 would be a good benchmark

1200 is realistic, 5800? you'll probably end up losing FPS due to error correction slowing you down. Just FYI, the "reference" cooler isn't all that bad (my 7850 is from HIS). I'm currently running 1200mhz at 1.16v (1.138 was stock for me), and I haven't hit 80* yet in OCCT or Crysis. Then again, I did get a pretty good chip.

Memory is good till 6.1ghz effective if you have adequate cooling.

I dunno why people whine about the stock sapphire dual fan cooler.


For me it NEVER goes above 60c, with a small custom profile.
never above 50% fanspeed.

I have the Sapphire card (only non-ref in stock when I was buying). I'm running at 1175/5500 @ 1.125v (stock is 1.075) using TRIXX. I haven't tried pushing it yet. Temps get into the high 50s on BF3, I think. ASIC quality is 86.6%.

OP, those are reasonable expectations so long as you can cool the card properly and you know what you're doing.

Hitting 1200mhz on the core of a 7850 is like hitting 4.5ghz on a 2500k IMO. It's 90% guaranteed.

5800mhz on the memory is faster than my card can handle. I've settled at 5500mhz.

I actually just ordered up one of the Sapphire 7850's. Using it to replace my unlocked Sapphire 6950 D3 edition. Not expecting much more performance, but the reduced heat, size and power usage will be a bonus since my HTPC has okay, but not fantastic air flow. Looking forward to testing it out. I am a HUGE fan of the Sapphire dual fan coolers, generally very quiet and cool very well.

That's what I'm using, though I never actually open the CCC (as it resets my clocks if I do), just use TRIXX to adjust clocks and voltage.

Just watch your temps. Try not to exceed 80C if you can.

I've been using GPU-Z and HWMonitor for a while, but do either of those display temps while in a game/benchmark? I don't imagine tabbing out is a good idea while its looping?
