I have officially took the plunge and went with the asus rampage v and the Intel 5960x with 16gb of corsair dominator platinum 2800mhz ram. I did some research and i just can't settle for less. I want the best. I was considering getting the ASUS X99e ws:

The ASUS rampage v seems to be the best bet I think. One of the reason why i dont like the X99e WS mobo is I cant see any PCIe on/off switches like the rampage v has. And I know that the rampage pry has a lot more users therefore a lot more support.

At the same time the WS mobo is calling my name and i still want that one. Mainly because of the PLX chips. And it just seems to be made with very high quality components. Does anyone know how the audio is on the X99e ws vs. the audio on the rampage v??

Im in need of some advice... I just got an AMD set up about 3 months ago and Newegg is letting me return the 9590, the ASUS crosshair v formula z motherboard, and 32gb of g-skill 2400mhz RAM. I have had nothing but problems with AMD. I seriously dont know why i went that route, but live and learn i guess. Any advice would be good. Im pretty dead set on the 5960x though.

Have you been keeping up to date with intels skylake launching later this year? Maybe its a bit late for that. 🙂

I think it's a quality board. The CPU you are looking at is compatible with the original BIOS, I would just make sure you get RAM that has been tested compatible. Seems a number or consumer reviews (if you go by those) are citing RAM issues.

About the audio. As far as just playing audio through 2.1 computer speakers, you won't notice a difference. If you are an audiophile and/or using the system for playing movies in surround sound, you may want to opt for the better chip, which gets you:
- Blu-ray audio layer Content Protection
- DTS Connect
- Optical S/PDIF out port(s) at back panel
- Sonic SoundStage
- Sonic SenseAmp
- Sonic Studio
- Sonic Radar II

The ram I plan on buying is listed on the motherboard's comparability sheet. I also have read a few reviews where people have had good luck with the ram. Corsair dominator platinum 2800mhz ddr4.

Do you know if the x99e ws had better audio than the rve?

One of the reasons im not all in with the x99e ws board is because i cant find a waterblock for it anywhere. i really want to watercool this entire system so that is a really big turn off that i cant find a water block.......

They all have the same socket, same block would fit an Extreme. In your original posting you failed to meant, why the E-WS its a server board and probably the highest priced board? Why not a main stream board like the Deluxe?

Same board as the extreme basically, plenty of PCI-E slots. But again what else are you gonna use to make it worth getting?

I want something with as many bells and whistles as I can get. I will be using it for video encoding and gaming. I also want something that will be future proof.

When I said they don't make a water block for the x99e WS I am not talking about the CPU water block I am taking about the vrm water blocks for the mother board itself. Like the rve blocks seen here:

I wish they had something like this for the x99e WS. I really like the 16x / 4 with the plx chips. The best the rve can do with 4 way sli/cfx is 16/8/8/8. The x99 also doesn't have the PCI switches on board like the rve. These are really handy for switching to 2 or 3- way cfx/sli. I just want the best. Nothing less. You can call me an enthusiast if you like. The only thing I don't like about the 5960x is the 3ghz clock speed. Oh well, I have until next week to make my final decision before ordering.

Any advice is welcome!
