So here's the deal:
I'm seeing a crazy price of $165 for the Vibrant on one of my lines on my family plan. Note that this line shows other phones, like the mytouch, at $230. this is some sort of crazy discount, no idea why.

i have 4 lines. 3 of them have a data plan. this discount is showing on the 4th line.

on tmobile.com, when I add the phone to my car and check out, i get the message:

The device you purchased requires a data service.
A data service is required in order to access your device’s Web functionality and features, including Internet access and e-mail. To add a data service, you may need to return to My.T-Mobile.com after you receive your device.

has anyone ever ordered a smartphone from tmobile, and not gone back to add a data service? what happens? do they add it for you?

before people start whining, I know that you need a data service to activate the phone. i'll use one of my other sims to do that.

thanks,
Vivan

Just order it. You can always change which phone you have in your account settings on the website and then remove the data plan.

They may force you to add it back based on the IMEI, like Apple does with the iPhone. I'm not sure - they did not for me when I had my N1.

found a couple posts on xda where people ordered as above, and tmo didn't add a data plan on. i went ahead and ordered it. the only reason I don't want a data plan now is that my parents (this is my mom's line) spend most of their time out of the country. that will probably change in ~6 months...so i'll add data then.
