Ordering from Dell

Been having the itch to buy a laptop and finally decided to pull the trigger. Configured one, added coupon, put in all the shipping/billing info, verified and then got to the page that says my order number will be e-mailed.

No problem. I wait and get no e-mail. Look under my account on Dell and it shows no order history. I call, wait 20 minutes and tell the CSR the story. She keeps me on the phone for 30 minutes saying she doesn't see an order in her system but she will transfer me to sales because "they have a better system for looking up orders".

Would have been great except I got transfered to a dead line. Decided to try the live chat. The CSR there tells me that it takes up to 42 hours for anyone to know if an order has gone though.

This is my first time ordering from Dell but are they really that unorganized that noone can tell me 100% whether an order was made?

Did you print this page? It should have your order number on it as well.

Nope. All I remember it saying was that I'd recieve it by e-mail. Didn't see a number anywhere on it.

Edit: And yes, I should have printed it anyways :(

It's been a while since I've placed an order on Dell's website, but I am pretty sure you're supposed to get the order number on the web site after you're finished.

If that's the case, you either did not complete the order, or you were not on Dell's website. Keep an eye on your credit card activity!

I was at Dell I'm pretty sure. I went back to the site later and the laptop was still in my cart. I figured something went wrong in the process which is when I decided to call. I didn't want to make a 2nd order on accident so I figured they could tell me 100% whether it was in their system or not.

I usually receive an order acknowledgement e-mail within 2 hours but the order doesn't show up online for 1-2 days.

If it was still in your cart, you probably didn't finish the ordering process.

You probably got to a page that said something along the lines of "your order number will be e-mailed to you after you click submit" but you didn't click submit.

Or maybe the internet farted when you tried to order.

Or maybe I should have asked when you placed the order.

Coupon doesn't expire til 9/21. Just talked to another CSR...said the same thing...nobody knows anything until after 24 hours.


Edit: Just got the e-mail. "Dell Order Has Been Acknowledged". Thanks for the info guys:) Never had an online store do orders this way :confused:
