Ordering contacts online

I am doing my father in law a favor and re-ordering contacts for him online, but I have been unable to purchase new contacts as many sites require an active prescription. I ordered from vision direct and was denied after placing the order b/c they could not verify an active (less than 1 year old) prescription at my F-I-L's eye doctor. Its not like contacts are contraband, why the hell is it so damn difficult to order them?

Just trying to save some time and a few $$, I'm in AZ if it matters.

I'm not aware of any. There was a website I used that didn't require a prescription. But they started requiring one 3-4 years ago. I now use 1800 Contacts and order 6 months worth right before my prescription expires.

thats a good idea, lens.com and justlenses.com appear to not require a prescription, but charge about $5 more than others per box. Oh well, its not my money, but it seems silly to not be able to buy them w/o a prescription. There's heaps of generic eyeglasses at every grocery/drug store that anyone can walk up and buy, how is this different?

I would guess it negates any lawsuits from idiots who choose something that screws up their vision and causes them to drive into oncoming traffic.
