Do I need to have my eye doctor call in the 'script, or can I order them as long as I know what I need?

I do not have eye insurance right now, and my doctor wont allow me to order new contacts without having looked at my eyes in the previous year (it's been about 15 months). I dont care to pay an exam fee right now, I'd rather wait until I'm covered again and pay the co-pay.

I order mine online. Most sites will just ask for the name of your doctor and his phone number and/or address. They take care of the verification for you.

I had been ordering contacts from 1800contacts and vision direct for over 2 years since my last eye exam, but last time when i ordered they said my prescription had expired. Apparently they called my eye doctor and she said it has been 2 years since so they canceled it. Needless to say i had to get another eye exam. At least my doctor is kinda cute.

But when my doctor looks at his records and sees that my last exam was over 12 months ago, can/will he reject verifying it on that basis?

It seems stupid to make people with contacts get re-checked every year, when people with glasses go without until they either break their glasses or notice their prescription has changed.

the trick is to buy Alot of contacts before your prescription is up, for example, buy 16 boxes or something mid way through your prescription, this way they will last you that extra year.

I ordered from 1800Contacts without having any prescription. I just put some random doctor from their list and I guess they were too lazy to verify it or didn't want to lose the sale. My sister did the same and it worked for her too.

Go to Sams Club, that's where I get my contacts. Cheaper than any online price I've seen.
